WAW’s Humes J. “Tripp” Franklin, III Selected as a “Leader in the Law” for 2018

Humes J. “Tripp” Franklin, III of Wharton Aldhizer & Weaver PLC was selected as an honoree in the 2018 Class of the “Leaders in the Law” by Virginia Lawyers Media, the publisher of Virginia Lawyers Weekly.

Now in its 13th year, this awards program recognizes the lawyers across the Commonwealth who are setting the standard for other lawyers in Virginia. “Leaders” are recognized for changing the law, serving the community, changing practice, or improving Virginia’s justice system, among other accomplishments.  Tripp was one of only twenty-five lawyers chosen for the 2018 class.

Tripp focuses his law practice on trial work in a variety of legal specialties. His clients vary widely, from individuals to publicly traded companies.  Tripp has successfully prevailed in trials related to medical malpractice, product defect claims, products liability claims, premises liability claims, criminal and family law cases, and a wide variety of personal injury claims.  Tripp was in the news most recently as a member of the trial team that secured a 3.5 million dollar medical malpractice verdict for the Estate of Melanie Smith.

Tripp appears regularly in the city and county courts of the Commonwealth of Virginia and West Virginia as well as the United States Federal Courts in both states, and handles appeals to the Virginia Supreme Court and the United States Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.  Tripp was the managing partner of Wharton, Aldhizer & Weaver for five years before stepping down in January of this year.

Tripp is extremely active in the local community, currently serving as the President of the Board of Directors of the Waynesboro YMCA Foundation, on the Board of Directors of Valley Pastoral Counseling Center in Waynesboro, and on the Board of Directors of Augusta Mutual Insurance Company.  In addition, Tripp volunteers as the head cross country coach for Grace Christian School in Staunton.
