Lauren R. Darden brings a comprehensive and integrated approach to her civil litigation and employment law practice. With an eye for helping companies more successfully navigate employment law, risk management, workers compensation defense, and corporate and commercial litigation, Lauren’s knowledge and skill ease the legal process for business owners. She also practices in all areas of insurance law, including insurance defense, policy coverage, and subrogation claims. Lauren has experience representing individuals and businesses in personal injury, premises liability and property damage claims. She regularly counsels businesses regarding company policies and employment handbooks, harassment and discrimination claims, employment compliance and various employee relation matters, from hiring to termination and severance agreements. Lauren is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in Virginia and has represented clients in appellate matters pending before the Supreme Court of Virginia and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Lauren has lived in the Shenandoah Valley since 1996 when she began her undergraduate education at James Madison University. She resides in Waynesboro with her husband, Christopher, and their two children and is active in local community affairs.
Lauren joined Wharton Aldhizer & Weaver PLC in 2006 after completing a judicial clerk externship with the Honorable Humes J. Franklin, Jr. and the Honorable Thomas H. Wood in the Twenty-Fifth Judicial Circuit Court of Virginia.
Lauren helps businesses to develop policies and procedures that provide legal compliance, as well as meet the practical needs and abilities of each business. Recognizing that size, corporate culture, a company’s mission and legal requirements can all contribute to an employer’s approach to employment issues, Lauren provides an individualized approach for employers in developing and implementing policies and procedures and handling employee issues when they arise. She also enjoys working with clients to find practical solutions to employment, risk management and business issues in an effort to minimize the risks of litigation and recognize the legal obligations and practical needs of employers and business owners.
With individual and business client have litigation claims to bring, or find themselves in the position of having a claim brought against them, Lauren enjoys the challenge of working through complex legal issues to find practical solutions and favorable outcomes for her clients. She has practiced in both state and federal courts in Virginia, including representing clients before the Virginia Supreme Court and Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
